What is an e-book?
An e-book is an electronic version of a book which can be read on a
personal computer or hand-held device designed specifically for this purpose. E-books can be
read on dedicated hardware devices known as e-readers, personal computers and a variety
of cell phones. Although it is not necessary to use a reader application or device in order to
read an e-book (most books can be read as PDF files), they are popular because they enable
options similar to those of a paper book – readers can bookmark pages, make notes, highlight
passages, and save selected text. Some computers offer programs to make reading e-books
more like reading a traditional book with a page-turning feature. An e-book can be downloaded
in less than five minutes!
